Paper Record Spring 2008 (45 rpm record)
Excerpt from Paper Record (mp3, 0:55, 652KB)
Excerpt from Plexiglas Record Die (mp3, 0:19, 232KB)

concept: Textual translation of Christian Marclay's "Recycled Record". Create a playable 45 rpm record out of the language from a book, in this case, James Joyce's Ulysses.

execution: Pulped James Joyce's Ulysses and made it into paper. I then laser cut the shape and spiral of a 45 rpm record into a piece of Plexiglas. I used this die as a master record on an etching press to emboss the handmade paper with a record spiral. The resulting paper record is playable little more than once on a record player.

Excerpt from Stuck Songs (mp3, 4:59, 6.9MB)

concept: Collect songs stuck in friends' heads over the period of one day to layer and create new song.

execution: Within a 24-hour period ask every person I know and have the occasion to talk to what song is stuck in their head. I recorded all of the songs at the end of the day onto my computer and layered the files in Audacity.

Her Duh Performance Fall 2007
Excerpt from Her Duh Performance (mp3, 2:35, 2.4MB)

concept: Group reading of John Cage's "Lecture on Nothing" remotely digitally controlled.

execution: Fifteen students gather in the Philadelphia Institute of Contemporary Art's Eileen Neff exhibition space with headphones hooked up to an audio stream playing Frances Marie-Uitti's recording of "Lecture on Nothing" and a copy of the lecture. Readers begin ad individual streams are cut off by the host one at a time. Readers are then forced to follow along with their neighbor. Christian Marclay's "Ensemble" exhibit can be heard in the background of the recording.
