Graffiti Composition Spring 2008 (in progress)

concept: Translate Christian Marclay piece by the same name into writing by pasting up children's handwriting lesson sheets instead of blank music scores.

execution: Wheatpasted blank handwriting sheets throughout Philadelphia. Return in one year to collect remaining sheets, the resulting marks made by anonymous individuals will be compiled and made into one piece of writing.

Fly Fall 2007
Excerpt from Class Reaction (mp3, 1:48, 1.2MB)

concept: Release 10,000 house flies into classroom. Record reaction.

execution: I bought 10,000 fly larvae online. Only fifty of them survived and hatched into flies. I released the flies into the classroom and made an audio recording of the class' reaction.

Phishing Part 1: Password Sunset Fall 2007

concept: Collect the passwords of fellow students and present them as a series of small literary texts.

execution: Via a PHP script, a fellow student and I sent emails appearing to come from facebook.com, informing the user that a friend had written on his or her wall. These emails actually linked to a friend's host, where there was set up what appeared to be the Facebook login page but in fact, upon clicking "Login," brought up a cheerfully terrifying Flash animation incorporating the user's password and a dolphin image created in Adobe Illustrator. None of the email addresses corresponding with passwords were saved, so I still don't know who they belong to.

Here is the spoofed Facebook login page:

And here are the results I ended up with:

Phishing Part 2: hottr0us3r$ Fall 2007
Concept: Replace the flag atop the University of Pennsylvania English Department building with one bearing a stolen password.

Execution: I printed the password "hottr0us3r$" on a sheet and sewed it into a flag. I then entered Fisher-Bennett Hall in the middle of the night with two friends, gained access to the roof, and replaced the "Penn Arts and Sciences" flag on top of the building with my own. The "h0ttr0us3r$" flag flew for two days before it was taken down. This video documents the flag replacement process.
