White Male Fall 2005

concept: Inspired by documentary slave photographs from the 19th century. I took the power dynamic of the white male photographer and the black slave subject, and switched it to a power dynamic between a white female photographer and white male subjects.

execution: Photographed subjects' head/torso, full frontal, and full side views against a black backdrop with a Hasselblad medium format camera and black & white film.

Margaret Spring 2007

concept: Photograph my aunt Margaret, who has had over ten surgeries on her joints due to debilitating arthiritis, throughout a day in her life.

execution: Photographed subject over the period of one day with Hasselblad medium format camera and natural light. Instead of taking candid photographs, I put her into poses during her normal activities.
